Excerpts from in the interaction:
Are you slightly disappointed not to win the Man of the Match award today?
Not at all. I'm happy that the team won and that I was able to contribute towards the team win.

How great does it feel to have done well as an opener?
Actually it feels good because I told the team management that I want to open. When you take that initiative and you go on to perform, it feels good.

Did you think your score of 188 was enough on this wicket?
I thought 188 was a very good score. At the start of the day if you had given me that total I would have taken it. I have to give credit to the Madurai Super Giant batsmen as they started off very well. You needed that two overs as a bowling team to restrict them without conceding boundaries but I don't think we got that chance. KB Arun Karthik played some extraordinary shots and even in the middle overs we were able to pick up some wickets, but even then the batsmen who came in were able to score boundaries.

What went through your mind during your opening partnership?
It was difficult as a captain because we had a plan but he was picking the good balls as well. So I was just hoping he would miss one, as we tried everything from outside off-stump and the stump line. We have to give credit to him as well.

What did you think of Srinaath's four-wicket haul today?
I thought he was brilliant today. I think he stepped up as a player. He was raring to go as he didn't contribute with the bat as expected. He spoke to me in the last game saying he was ready to bowl, so when a player comes and speaks to a captain like that it gives you confidence.

Do you think your effort in the field made the difference today?
Yes, definitely if you see last year in the games where we fielded well we won them. I think our fielding was better in this game, we can still improve but I'm happy the catches were taken.

What went through your mind just before that final run-out?
I was hoping that Kaushik would bowl to the stumps and that he would miss the ball. It was a Yorker and it came straight to me. I took one step then thought I couldn't run up to the wickets and make it, so I just hit it.
