MUMBAI: Former India pacer
Aavishkar Salvi will coach
Puducherry this season. The 38-year-old Mumbaikar, who played four ODIs in 2003 before injuries plagued his career, has already coached Puducherry - he began his coaching career post retirement in 2018 with the southern team - in the past. It was Puducherry's maiden domestic season.
"It's an exciting opportunity. We don't know when the season would start, how big it would be.
Nothing is clear till now. Still, the Cricket Association of Puducherry (CAP) approached me, and it looks a promising thing. I told them I will be available," Savi told TOI on Saturday.
Former Karnataka opener JAC Arunkumar was the coach of Puducherry last year. Besides Salvi, Puducherry have hired another Mumbaikar, Onkar Khanvilkar, as their assistant coach, and Rajasthan's former wicketkeeper
Dishant Yagnik as their fielding coach. The team is led by Rohit Damodar, and they have a pro in former Himachal batsman
Paras Dogra.
Like most of the other Mumbai's former players, Salvi too has been in demand as a coach. He is also the fast bowling coach of Oman (on an assignment basis), who qualified for the T20 World Cup last year.
