The visitors faltered in their second outing with the bat, unable to form any meaningful partnerships. None of the top or middle-order batters could capitalise on their starts - Anamul Haque (19), Shadman Islam (12), Mominul Haque (15), Najmul Hossain Shanto (26), Mushfiqur Rahim (26), and Mehedy Hasan Miraz (11) all fell cheaply. Litton Das remained unbeaten on 13 at the close of play.
Sri Lanka’s bowlers maintained relentless pressure, with captain Dhananjaya de Silva (2/13) and left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya (2/47) sharing key breakthroughs.
Earlier, Pathum Nissanka starred with the bat once again, backing up his 187 in the first Test with a fluent 158, comprising 19 fours in a six-hour knock. He laid the platform alongside contributions from Kusal Mendis, who struck an aggressive 84 off 87 balls, and Kamindu Mendis, who added 33.
Sri Lanka, resuming on 290/2, were bowled out for 458, thanks to a sharp second new ball spell from Bangladesh. Taijul Islam was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with 5 for 131 - his 17th five-wicket haul.
Despite taking quick wickets in the morning session, Bangladesh failed to contain Sri Lanka’s lead. The first Test in Galle ended in a draw, but Sri Lanka are now firmly on course to secure a 1-0 series win, barring a miraculous resistance on Day 4.
