South Africa dominated the opening day of the second Test against Bangladesh, ending at 307/2. Tony de Zorzi and Tristan Stubbs both scored their maiden Test centuries, with de Zorzi unbeaten on 141 and Stubbs making 106. NEW DELHI: South Africa seized control of the second Test against Bangladesh on the opening day, reaching a dominant 307/2 at stumps, thanks to maiden Test centuries from Tony de Zorzi and Tristan Stubbs.
Winning the toss and electing to bat on a batsman-friendly pitch at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, South Africa lost captain Aiden Markram early for 33.
However, this paved the way for a record-breaking partnership between de Zorzi and Stubbs. The duo combined for a monumental 201-run stand for the second wicket, a new record for South Africa against Bangladesh in Test matches.
De Zorzi, battling through visible discomfort from cramps in the sweltering Chittagong heat, remained unbeaten on 141 at the close of play. His innings, spanning 211 deliveries, was characterized by patience and composure, showcasing his ability to build a substantial innings.

Stubbs, known for his aggressive batting style, displayed remarkable restraint and maturity, crafting a patient 106 off 198 balls.
His innings came to an end in the final session when a Taijul Islam delivery skidded through, clipping the bottom edge en route to the stumps.

While Taijul was the pick of the Bangladeshi bowlers, claiming two wickets for 110 runs in his 30-over spell, the hosts struggled to contain the South African batsmen on a pitch offering little assistance to the bowlers.

David Bedingham (18 not out) joined de Zorzi at the crease after Stubbs's dismissal, and the pair saw out the remaining overs until bad light forced an early end to the day's play.
South Africa, already 1-0 up in the two-match series following their comprehensive victory in the first Test, will be aiming to build on their strong position on day two and push for a series-clinching win.
Bangladesh, on the other hand, face an uphill battle to claw their way back into the contest. The performance of their bowlers on day two will be crucial in determining the course of the match.
