NEW DELHI: The hunt for the women's cricket team's coach is becoming interesting by the day. Over 13 have already applied, and with a day still left for the applications to be submitted, BCCI is expecting candidates like Gary Kirsten and Mike Hesson to apply too. All applicants will be called for interviews on December 20.

Besides Dav Whatmore, former England cricketer and head coach of UAE,

, former South African cricketer and head coach of Kuwait, Herschelle Gibbs, former England cricketer Dimitri Mascarenhas, Dominic Thornely and Colin Siller are some of the prominent foreigners who have applied for the job.

Amongst the Indians, Atul Bedade, David Johnson, head coach of Oman, Rakesh Sharma, Manoj Prabhakar, Vidyuth Jaisimha (son of former great ML Jaisimha) and Ramesh Powar have applied for the job. It is understood that Gargi Banerjee is the only female applicant so far in the list.

Sources said that former coach Powar, whose contract was not renewed following the controversy during the recent World T20 Championship in the West Indies, has threatened to spill the beans if he is not considered for the job.

Despite the backing of T20 captain Harmanpreet Kaur and her deputy Smriti Mandhana, Powar was not given an extension. He was held responsible for dropping star player Mithali Raj from the playing XI in the semifinal against England.

The Hyderabad player blamed Powar and CoA member Diana Edulji for her omission. It is alleged that the coach dropped Mithali after he got a call from a senior member of the board.
