Mithali Raj creates history in women’s cricket

It was a bittersweet day for the Indian women’s cricket team on Wednesday. While on one hand skipper Mithali Raj crossed the 6,000-runs mark and became the all-time leading run scorer in women’s cricket in one-day internationals and Punam Raut scored a feisty century, the team lost the match to Australia.
Mithali’s feat will be remembered by many for a long time, despite team India’s loss in this World Cup game.After all, her feat was lauded by everyone, her male counterparts, as well as top politicians. Mithali, who is now the first woman to score 6,000 runs in ODIs, is also nearing another landmark. She is just one short of 50 half centuries in ODIs.
