Jasprit Bumrah to Sai Sudharsan, Fuller one and on middle, shaping in this time, Sai Sudharsan clips it through square leg for a couple of runs.
Jasprit Bumrah to Sai Sudharsan, BEAUTY! Jasprit Bumrah begins with the good-length delivery around off, shaping away sharply with bounce. Sai Sudharsan has a poke at it but gets beaten on the outisde edge.
No respite for GT as it will be the world-class Jasprit Bumrah to share the attack.
Trent Boult to Kusal Mendis, Fuller in length and around off, Kusal Mendis reaches out for it and slices it over extra covers for a brace. 5 runs and a wicket off the first over!
Trent Boult to Kusal Mendis, Nails the yorker, on off, swings in, Kusal Mendis digs it out.
Kusal Mendis walks out to bat at number 3.
Trent Boult to Shubman Gill, OUT! LBW! Who else? Trent Boult strikes once again in the first over! He just keeps getting the early breakthroughs for MI, and this one is a big one as Shubman Gill walks back on 1 off 2. Pitches it up and on middle, gets it shape in sharply. Gill stays back and looks to whip it across the line, but misses it completely and gets hit on the pads right in front of the stumps. There is a huge shout for LBW, and up goes the finger. However, the GT skipper takes the review, but UltraEdge and Ball Tracking both go against him, and he takes a review with him. GT are rocked early here!
Trent Boult to Sai Sudharsan, Fine shot, excellent fielding! Good cricket all around! Full again and just around off, Sai Sudharsan drives it crisply wide of mid off. Tilak Varma puts in a full-length dive to his right and saves three for his team. Just one.
Trent Boult to Shubman Gill, Touch fuller but shaping into the pads this time, Shubman Gill glances it to fine leg for a run. Both openers off the mark now.
Trent Boult to Sai Sudharsan, Sai Sudharsan and Gujarat Titans get underway in the chase! Trent Boult starts with a good-length delivery around off. Sai guides it away past point beating the dive of two fielders for a single.
The players are slowly making their way back out to the middle. Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan will open the innings for Gujarat Titans. Who will start the bowling? Spin or pace? Pace. Trent Boult will start off proceedings to Sai Sudharsan. Here we go...
... THE RUN CHASE ...
So Gujarat Titans need 229 to try and book a place in Qualifier 2. It is a massive ask on this ground, which has usually supported teams batting first. GT's top 3 have been their pillars of strength throughout this tournament and they have been the best batting side as well, but tonight, they will have to pull out the best batting display of the tournament, that too, sans Jos Buttler, if they want to play another game in Ahmedabad this season. Do stay tuned for the chase.
Mumbai Indians' JONNY BAIRSTOW is up for a chat now. Calls this weather being similar to the one in Leeds. Informs that he is not going out there to keep wickets but will be resting. Says that it was fun batting with Rohit Sharma. Believes that Mumbai have got a nice score there and will love to exploit the conditions with the ball now. On the score, Bairstow states that after watching the game last night, it was an interesting thought in MI's dressing room. Feels that if any, the ball might do something in the first 6 overs, so they looked to attack the new ball, but diplomatically ends by saying that we will have to wait for 20 overs to see whether the score is par or not.
A really tough outing with the ball for the Titans. Only spin gave them some respite, with the pacers being taken aplenty. If their fielders had supported them, they might have restricted Mumbai to under 200. Towards the end, Prasidh Krishna managed to bag 2 wickets while Sai Kishore was impressive despite the onslaught, snaring 2 of his own.
It looked like a sluggish deck at the pitch report and Hardik Pandya too, opined the same. Hence, attacking the new ball was the key and MI's openers gave it their all. They were lucky, with Rohit being dropped twice, on scores of 3 and 12, to fairly simple catches and he took full toll. He took the responsibility of batting through and scored a magnifcient 81, batting as deep as the 17th over. He formed good partnerships with Jonny Bairstow and Suryakumar Yadav on the way. Towards the end, after Rohit's dismissal, just when Gujarat thought they were making a comeback, Hardik Pandya spoilt their fun with a cameo of 22 (9).
Well, on this kind of a deck, it does seem like Mumbai Indians are the ones who are going to head to Gujarat Titans' home ground on Sunday. A terrific batting innings, recording 3 scores in excess of 30. 14 fours and 17 sixes smashed. The Titans just did not set the right foot from the start, dropping as many as 3 catches, with 2 of those being of Rohit Sharma, which cost them very dearly.
Gerald Coetzee to Hardik Pandya, Finally, the yorker is nailed. On middle and leg, Hardik Pandya whips it to deep mid-wicket for a single. 22 runs from the final over, and MUMBAI INDIANS FINISH ON 228/5!
Gerald Coetzee to Hardik Pandya, WIDE! Number 3 of the over! This over is just not ending. Miles outside off, left alone and that's 50 for Coetzee with a ball left!
Gerald Coetzee to Hardik Pandya, SIX! Third one of the over! A length ball, outside off, another slower one, Hardik waits for the ball to arrive and slices this over long off, for a 79-metre hit!
Gerald Coetzee to Hardik Pandya, ANOTHER WIDE! Slower delivery attempted, but goes awry, Well outside off on a length, calmly left alone.
Gerald Coetzee to Hardik Pandya, WIDE. Coetzee won't like it. He has banged this into the middle of the pitch, using all of his shoulders and got so much height that it has gone sailing over Hardik's head. And the South African has convinced Shubman Gill to take the review for a wide. 0.1 metres above the batter's head. Wide alright, but also signalled the second bouncer of the over. Cannot dig it in again.
Gerald Coetzee to Hardik Pandya, SIX! CREAMED! A short ball, outside off, extra bounce, Hardik Pandya gets on top of the bounce and pulls it with force over mid-wicket!
Gerald Coetzee to Hardik Pandya, Short of a length and outside off, Hardik Pandya slashes at it but gets it from the toe-end of the bat towards extra covers. Another dot!
Gerald Coetzee to Hardik Pandya, SIX! MONSTER HIT! Gerald Coetzee attempts the yorker but serves this right in the slot, on middle. Hardik Pandya stays deep inside his crease, gets under it and launches it high and handsomely over the bowler's head for a 95-METRE BIGGIE.
Gerald Coetzee to Hardik Pandya, Swing and a miss! That is three dot balls in a row now! Gerald Coetzee bangs in a sharp bouncer and gets some extra purchase from the deck. Hardik Pandya flaps his bat at it but fails to connect.
Gerald Coetzee to bowl the final over. 2-0-29-0 so far. 220? 225? How much can Gujarat restrict Mumbai to?
Prasidh Krishna to Mitchell Santner, Down the leg side, Santner looks to help it fine but misses. Seems like it clipped something on the way to the keeper as the umpire does not signal a wide. No review taken by Santner either. The best over bowled by Prasidh for the night, but with poor figures of 4-0-53-2.
Prasidh Krishna to Mitchell Santner, Slower ball, outside off, Mitchell Santner swings but misses.
Mitchell Santner walks in next at number 7, replacing Naman Dhir. Meanwhile, GT make use of their impact substitute, getting in SHERFANE RUTHERFORD for the limping Mohammed Siraj.
Prasidh Krishna to Naman Dhir, OUT! CAUGHT! With that the Purple Cap swaps over to Prasidh Krishna, taking his 25th scalp of the tournament. A slower ball, on a length, outside off. Naman Dhir looks to swing it over the leg side but cannot quite get the power. Rashid Khan jogs across to his right at deep mid-wicket and takes a fine catch. Naman departs for 9 (6) and from 186/2, Mumbai Indians are now 206/5 after 18.4 overs.
Prasidh Krishna to Naman Dhir, SIX! Into the pads and put away nicely! Prasidh Krishna goes fuller but angling into the leg side. Naman Dhir is already standing with an open stance, brings his wrists into play and flicks it over the deep square leg fence for a biggie.
Prasidh Krishna to Hardik Pandya, 200 UP FOR MI! Hard length and just around off, Hardik Pandya tries to slog it a bit too hard and ends up toe-ending it towards extra covers for a run.
Prasidh Krishna to Naman Dhir, Fuller and on middle, Naman Dhir whips it away towards deep mid-wicket for just a single.
Who bowls the 19th? Prasidh or Coetzee? Gill sticking with Prasidh.
Mohammed Siraj to Naman Dhir, Full outside off, Naman Dhir backs away to the leg side and hammers it towards mid off where Shubman Gill makes a good stop. Good comeback from Siraj after the first-ball six. He finishes with figures of 4-0-37-1, fairly decent as compared to the others.
Siraj is clearly not okay. He is limping back to his mark and his captain is encouraging him to complete one final ball. Here we go then...
Mohammed Siraj to Hardik Pandya, Short and wide outside off, Hardik Pandya waits for the ball to arrive and upper cuts it over point. Deep third gets across to his right and keeps the batters to a single.
Mohammed Siraj to Naman Dhir, On a length, around off, coming in, bunted through mid on for a run.
Problems for Siraj. He has called for the physio to have a look at his hamstring, is it? Yes. He is now stretching his left leg. Not sure whether this is a cramp because it is not all that humid tonight in Mullanpur. Gets up now, does Siraj, to try and complete his over.
Mohammed Siraj to Naman Dhir, Back of a length and on middle, angling into the body of the batter, Naman Dhir fails to work it away as the ball drops on the pitch and goes nowhere.
Mohammed Siraj to Naman Dhir, Bangs in a bouncer but down the leg side this time, Naman Dhir lets it go. Wided.
Naman Dhir walks in next at number 6, replacing Tilak Varma.
Mohammed Siraj to Tilak Varma, OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Kusal Mendis finally manages to take a catch! Siraj bowls this on a good length, but takes all the pace off this time. Tilak shuffles across and goes for the scoop, but due to the lack of pace, all he manages is to glove it behind, where Mendis grabs a dolly. Varma departs for a quick-fire 25 off 11, and MI are 194/4!
Mohammed Siraj to Tilak Varma, SIX! Up, up and away! Mohammed Siraj gets greeted in the same way as Prasidh Krishna was in the last over. HIts the hard length and on middle and off. Tilak Varma gets across a bit to get in line with the ball and heaves it way over the deep mid-wicket fence for half a dozen more.
Mohammed Siraj is back on. 3-0-27-0 so far.
Prasidh Krishna to Tilak Varma, A full toss, punched down to long off for a single. 13 runs from the over, but a wicket as well. Will that slow down the scoring though?
Prasidh Krishna to Hardik Pandya, A short ball, around off, Hardik Pandya swivels and pulls it towards long leg for a single.
Skipper Hardik Pandya walks in next at number 5, replacing Rohit Sharma.
