Persistent rain in Dallas forced the abandonment of the MLC 2025 Qualifier 1 match between Texas Super Kings and Washington Freedom on Tuesday. With no reserve day available, Freedom secured a direct spot in the final based on their top position in the league standings, marking their second consecutive final appearance. The match officials called off the game at 9:45 PM local time, nearly three hours after the scheduled 7 PM start. The decision came just 41 minutes before the deadline for a shortened five-overs-per-side contest. The evening began promisingly with the toss taking place as planned at 6:30 PM. Freedom won the toss and chose to field first. They made one change, bringing in speedster Lockie Ferguson to replace Mark Chapman, while Super Kings kept their lineup unchanged.
However, the weather had other plans. Just before the first ball could be bowled, a lightning warning forced the ground staff to cover the pitch. After the lightning threat passed, heavy rainfall continued throughout the evening, making play impossible. The washout means Texas Super Kings must now take a longer route to the final. They will face the winner of Tuesday's Eliminator match between MI New York and San Francisco Unicorns in Qualifier 2 for another chance to reach the final.
