LA Knight Riders still chasing MLC playoff dream after two tough seasons
The Los Angeles Knight Riders have had a challenging journey in the Major League Cricket (MLC) so far.
Competing in one of the world’s fastest-growing T20 leagues, the Knight Riders have failed to make the playoffs in both the 2023 and 2024 seasons, finishing at the lower end of the table each time.

2023: A Forgettable Debut
The Knight Riders had a rocky start to their MLC campaign in 2023, ending the inaugural season at the bottom of the standings. They registered just one win in five games.
The season began with a heavy 69-run loss to Texas Super Kings, followed by a crushing 105-run defeat at the hands of MI New York. Further losses to San Francisco Unicorns and Washington Freedom left them winless until their final game, where they managed a narrow 2-wicket win over Seattle Orcas.
No players from the squad featured among the tournament’s top five run-scorers or wicket-takers, highlighting their overall struggle.
2024: Slight Improvement, But Still Short
While the 2024 season showed glimpses of progress, LA Knight Riders once again missed the playoffs, finishing fifth with two wins from seven matches.
They started strong with a 12-run win over Texas Super Kings, but the momentum quickly faded with consecutive defeats to San Francisco Unicorns and Seattle Orcas. Rain washed out one fixture, and losses to Washington Freedom and MI New York sealed their fate. Their only other win came against Seattle Orcas.
Jason Roy (163 runs) and Unmukt Chand (158 runs) led the scoring charts for the team but failed to break into the league’s top ten batters. Spencer Johnson impressed with the ball, claiming nine wickets over the season.
As MLC enters its third year, the LA Knight Riders will be hoping third time’s the charm as they look to finally break their playoff jinx and stake a serious claim in the league.
