NEW DELHI: Staging the 13th edition of IPL in the midst of a pandemic has been an uphill task for the BCCI. But in order to conduct a safe tournament, medical staff, in complete coordination with one another, are working day in and out, making sure all safety protocols are strictly followed.

During the course of

IPL 2020

, over 20,000 tests will be conducted, as was confirmed by a spokesperson for VPS Healthcare, the tournament's Abu Dhabi based official medical partner last week.

Since their arrival in the United Arab Emirates, players and support staff members of all the eight franchises are being regularly tested for

Covid-19

. Various rounds of testing have already been completed. Till Wednesday, last week 3500 tests had been conducted.

Mumbai Indians on Sunday posted a video, showing how the tests are being routinely conducted for the players and staff members.

From isolated sections, medical personnel in full PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) kits, to fully sanitised testing spaces, to the medical personnel conducting the tests changing their gloves after every test, to sophisticated filtration systems, the attempt is to leave no stone unturned to ensure a fully secure bio bubble at all times. Every player and support staff member will be subjected to around 21 to 24 swabbings in the season that will be played till November 10.

Earlier, 13 members of the Chennai Super Kings squad including two players tested for the coronavirus after their third round of testing in the UAE.



Twelve of them have now recovered and are back with the team in the bio-secure bubble.

Defending champions Mumbai Indians take on Chennai Super Kings in the season opener on September 19.
