With the win, Sunrisers also ended their winless streak against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk. Sunrisers Hyderabad's next outing is on May 2 against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

"That's why the likes of Kamindu came into the team. That's why there was the shuffle in the batting order, putting Heinrich Klaasen up and Nitish Kumar Reddy down, to give us a more balanced approach, particularly in a chase," he said.
"The initial plan revolved around left-right-hand combinations, partly to counter Noor Ahmad and Ravindra Jadeja and how good they are through those middle stages."
"A lot of the logic behind picking him (Mendis) was specific to this ground. We knew what sort of surface we'd encounter, and having a batsman who can play all types of spin, be aggressive, and hit a multitude of shots was the starting point," he added.
