Watson, one of the most decorated white-ball cricketers of his generation, represented Australia in 59 Tests, 190 ODIs, and 58 T20Is, scoring over 10,000 international runs and claiming more than 280 wickets across formats. He was a pivotal member of Australia’s 2007 and 2015 ICC World Cup-winning teams and has been part of several title-winning campaigns throughout his career.
“I am eager to work closely with the coaching group and players to help bring another title to Kolkata,” Watson said in a statement released by the franchise.
Watson’s IPL journey spanned 12 years (2008–2020), during which he featured in 145 matches, scored four centuries, and played key roles for Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings, both of whom he helped guide to championship victories.
Post-retirement, the former Australian vice-captain has built a strong reputation as a coach and mentor, working with various franchises in global T20 leagues.
Welcoming Watson to the setup, KKR CEO Venky Mysore said, “We are thrilled to welcome Shane Watson to the KKR family. His experience as a player and coach at the highest level will add immense value to our team culture and preparation. His understanding of the T20 format is world-class, and we look forward to his contributions both on and off the field.”
