MUMBAI: Former New Zealand captain
Brendon McCullum will quit as the
Kolkata Knight Riders
coach at the end of IPL 2022 as he's set to become the England Test team's head coach, it's reliably learnt.
The
English Cricket Board
could soon make a formal announcement about McCullum's appointment.
McCullum
will thus be the second
KKR coach that the
ECB
would have hired. He would follow in the footsteps of
Trevor Bayliss, under whom England transformed their white-ball game.
England's previous coach
Chris Silverwood resigned in February in the aftermath of their 0-4 Ashes defeat in Australia, with
Paul Collingwood taking over the job on an interim basis. The ECB had invited applications for different coaches for England's Test and white-ball teams.
McCullum's first assignment as the England coach will be a home series against New Zealand. England and New Zealand are scheduled to play three Tests at Lord's, Nottingham and Leeds from June 2.
Rob Key
is the new Managing Director of the England men's team.
