Royal Challengers Bengaluru unveils six-point fan welfare plan under 'RCB Cares' programme
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have announced a new initiative called ‘RCB Cares’ as part of their long-term response to the tragic stampede that took place during the team’s IPL trophy celebrations earlier this year, which claimed 11 lives at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The franchise had earlier pledged Rs 25 lakh in compensation to each bereaved family. Building on that promise, RCB launched ‘RCB Cares’ as a platform to “support, empower and elevate our 12th Man Army through meaningful action.”

The initiative outlines a six-point action plan, with the focus firmly on fan welfare and safety. At its core, the programme promises to go beyond financial support and instead create structural safeguards for the future. RCB has proposed a “fan-safety audit framework” and annual training for on-ground staff, ensuring they are better prepared for emergencies and large gatherings.
The plan also stresses collaboration with the IPL and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) to design stronger crowd management protocols. The franchise aims to work closely with stadium authorities and league partners to avoid a repeat of the devastating incident.
Beyond safety, the initiative also looks at empowering local communities by investing in research on crowd safety, creating in-stadia jobs, nurturing local talent, and finding ways to permanently honour the memory of fans who lost their lives.
While the implementation of ‘RCB Cares’ will require approval from government authorities, the franchise has described the project as a long-term commitment to the welfare of its supporters.
The announcement follows a damning inquiry into the June tragedy, which found that RCB had invited massive crowds through social media without securing the necessary permissions. The report highlighted how the overwhelming turnout caught the police unprepared and understaffed, ultimately leading to a fatal lapse in crowd control.
