CHENNAI: There were talks on Saturday that English paceman Reece Topley was approached by Chennai Super Kings as a replacement for Josh Hazlewood but the left-armer turned it down due to Covid-19 concerns in Mumbai.

Sources close to Topley said on Sunday that it isn't the case and that the pacer was only told after the limited-overs series against India that he may be one of the replacement options for Hazlewood but the talks didn't go beyond that.

It was told that the 27-year-old Surrey player would be happy to play IPL if he is approached by CSK or any other franchise.

The paceman, who looked impressive in the few chances that he got for England, doesn't have problems with bubble life or anything on those lines and wants to play IPL.

CSK, meanwhile, haven't yet finalized their replacement for Hazlewood and it would be interesting to see who they go for. Sources had indicated that finding a suitable replacement for Hazlewood hadn't been easy due to the

Covid

situation in Mumbai, where CSK play their first few games.
