Player of the Day: Shubman Gill keeps Kolkata alive

NEW DELHI: Teenager Shubman Gill played a mature knock in the T20 league match against Punjab on Friday to help his team win and stay alive in its quest to qualify for the play-offs.


After Chris Lynn's 22-ball 46 put Kolkata on their way chasing 184, Gill anchored the chase with 65 not out off 49 balls while carrying his team to a seven-wicket victory.

Gill literally toyed with Punjab skipper Ravichandran Ashwin, hitting the off-spinner for 18 runs in an over.

Kolkata now must beat Mumbai in their last league match to qualify for the play-offs.
