CHENNAI: It seems that the
coronavirus has the
Indian Premier League (
IPL) and
Board Of Control For Cricket In India (
BCCI) in a grip.
Even as 13 Chennai Super Kings (CSK) personnel, including two players - pacers
Deepak Chahar
and young batsman
Ruturaj Gaikwad - are recovering from the dreaded virus after contracting it last week, it was learnt that a member of the Indian team support staff who is also a part of the BCCI medical committee might have been infected too.
The IPL had conducted a webinar last week where BCCI's medical team members cleared several doubts of players and franchise officials on how to observe safety protocols inside the bio-bubble.
It is understood that several IPL teams have been trying to get in touch with this medical expert but they have been told that he is unavailable at the present moment. It is not yet clear whether the individual is asymptomatic but, according to BCCI protocols, he has been already moved to a separate quarantine facility where he is self-isolating.
The IPL will start on September 19 even though the BCCI is yet to announce the schedule.
Another Covid-19 positive case will add to the growing apprehension among players as it also comes on the back of Suresh Raina's decision to pull out of IPL due to 'personal reasons'.
Earlier this week, CSK's Australia pacer Josh Hazlewood raised an alarm about the issue, saying that the Aussies will take a final call on whether to travel to the UAE after consulting
Cricket Australia
.
Hazlewood's concern was echoed by New Zealand captain
Kane Williamson too on Wednesday even as he prepares for his stint with the Sunrisers Hyderabad. He is scheduled to fly out to the UAE on Thursday.
