MUMBAI: A majority of the players plying their trade on the international as well as the domestic circuit have an eye on the IPL auctions, whenever they take place. The auction for the 2019 season was held in Jaipur on Tuesday, and while fans were introduced to a handful of names, courtesy the crores that franchises splurged on them; there were a lot many players who were left dejected because they found no favour with any team.
Saurashtra’s Dharmendrasinh Jadeja belongs to the latter group. The left-arm spinner has taken 32 wickets in six outings this season. Last year, too, he claimed 34 wickets in six games. This consistency led him to believe that there were teams out there who would show some interest in him. But that did not happen, leaving Jadeja dejected.
“Last year I was among the top bowlers in the Ranji Trophy. This year, too, I have been successful. In the last two matches, I have taken 19 wickets including a hat-trick. I was hoping that these performances would get recognised and some IPL team would take note of it. But, still I have not got any chance.
“Let alone direct selection, I have not even been called for trials prior to the auctions,” said a dejected Jadeja.
