IPL 2026: Jaiswal, Sooryavanshi blitz powers RR to 27-run win over MI
GUWAHATI: Rain was the dominant theme in Guwahati on Tuesday, but only until Yashasvi Jaiswal seized the spotlight. In a truncated 11-overs-aside affair following heavy downpour, it rained sixes as the Rajasthan Royals openers Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi seized the day.
Jaiswal’s unbeaten 77 off 32 balls and Sooryavanshi’s 14-ball 39 took RR to 150/3, leaving Mumbai Indians staring at an uphill chase here at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium.

The Mumbai batters succumbed to the pressure, losing wickets at regular intervals and failing to get any partnerships going. They only managed 123/9 as RR won by 27 runs for their third win on the trot.
The game hinged on the Powerplay performance. Compared to RR’s 59/0 in the Powerplay — which was reduced to 3.2 overs — Mumbai could score only 30, losing three wickets, with Ryan Rickelton, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav back in the pavilion with single-digit scores.
Mumbai lost half their side inside five overs with only 46 runs on board, with captain Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma also back in the dugout. Naman Dhir and Sherfane Rutherford waged a lone battle down the order but it was too little too late.
Earlier, rain delayed the start of the IPL game to 10:10 pm instead of the scheduled 7:30 pm. That failed to reduce the intensity of the Royals openers, who took all the MI bowlers to the cleaners. Asked to bat first, Jaiswal and Sooryavanshi — both in marauding form — started the proceedings as if they were having a hit in the nets. Though Sooryavanshi was visibly disappointed to be dismissed after hitting five sixes and a boundary, Jaiswal carried his bat through the innings, scoring 10 fours and four sizes. Royals captain Riyan Parag helped with a 10-ball 20.
MI skipper Pandya gave the new ball to Deepak Chahar, who leaked 22 runs as Jaiswal hit him for four fours and a maximum to start with. Even Jasprit Bumrah was not spared, being hit for a six off his very first ball by Sooryavanshi. It was delivered on middle and leg and the 15-year-old whipped it over mid-on with minimum fuss. The next two balls fetched two singles and the fourth ball was again heaved for a six over deep square leg by the 15-year-old as the over yielded 14 runs.
Shardul Thakur dismissed Sooryavanshi off the last ball of the fifth over as Tilak Varma took a good catch at deep cover boundary but Jaiswal, in silken touch, continued to score at brisk pace.
