Former Indian cricketer
Sanjay Bangar has predicted that South African batsman David Miller could be one of the most sought-after players at the upcoming Indian Premier League 2026 mini auction in Abu Dhabi on December 16, particularly highlighting interest from teams like Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders.
Bangar, speaking on JioStar's 'IPL Auction Most Wanted' show, emphasized Miller's proven finishing abilities and extensive experience in high-pressure situations as key factors that make him valuable for franchises.
According to Bangar, Miller's consistent performance and calm temperament in closing out games position him as one of the elite finishers in T20 cricket.
"David Miller will likely be among the top three most expensive players in this auction. Several teams need a player with his finishing ability -- Gujarat Titans, for instance, would benefit from his experience, while Kolkata Knight Riders could target him too, especially with Andre Russell's retirement and a healthy purse at their disposal," Bangar said.
The Kolkata Knight Riders enter the auction with the highest remaining purse of INR 64.30 crore, giving them substantial bidding power for premium players.
With Andre Russell's departure, Miller is being viewed as a potential replacement for KKR's finishing role.
Former Indian cricketer MSK Prasad has also commented on Venkatesh Iyer's capabilities, noting his versatility across different batting positions.
"Venkatesh Iyer is a special talent -- a versatile left-hander who's delivered for KKR in multiple roles. He's shown the ability to open the innings, anchor the middle order, and even finish games when required, which speaks volumes about his flexibility and impact."
KKR had previously acquired Iyer for INR 23.75 crore in the last mega-auction, but his performances did not meet expectations.
The team subsequently released him ahead of the 2026 auction but might consider re-signing him at a lower price.
Iyer's previous contributions to KKR include several important innings in crucial matches.
His medium-pace bowling abilities add value to his profile as an all-round player.
Given his history with the franchise and match-winning capabilities, KKR might explore the option of bringing him back at a more reasonable price point.
