NEW DELHI: If rain plays spoilsport in the much-anticipated IPL 2025 clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Bengaluru, the outcome could have massive implications, especially for KKR.
According to IPL rules, if a match is washed out due to rain and no result is possible, both teams are awarded one point each. There’s no reserve day for league stage games, and even a toss isn’t necessary for the teams to share points.

A washout would leave them at 12 points with just one game left, meaning the maximum they could reach is 14, which may not be enough to break into the top four, depending on net run rate and other results.
Simply put, their playoff hopes could be all but over.
The weather forecast for Bengaluru has been patchy, with a high chance of evening showers. Organisers will be hoping the rain stays away, not only for the points at stake but for what promises to be an emotionally charged evening at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
In the end, if the skies open up and the match doesn’t happen, RCB would stay in playoff contention, but for KKR, the rain might signal the end of the road.
