AHMEDABAD: When Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant returned to cricket after a life-threatening car crash in Dec 2022, it was a moment to cherish. Now Pant is giving his fans more reasons to celebrate with his performances in the IPL.
IPL ORANGE CAP | IPL PURPLE CAP | IPL POINTS TABLEThe dynamic cricketer has handled his triple role as captain, batter and wicketkeeper with aplomb, a fact which was seconded by James Hopes, DC's fielding coach.

Reflecting on his performance against Gujarat Titans, a game in which he effected four dismissals (two catches and two stumpings), Hopes said, "Pant's keeping is very good. Last year, we tried really hard to cover that gap. But it's hard to cover a world-class keeper. Now he is back."

Pant has effected 11 dismissals (eight catches and three stumpings) so far.

"Everything about his game, his keeping, his captaincy is becoming very sharp. His batting has been very good from the start. He is rounding in on some pretty good form in the back half of the tournament and he is leading really well," Hopes said.

Pant is also the leading run-getter for Capitals, having tallied 210 runs in seven matches at a strike rate of 156.71 with two half-centuries.

The Capitals put up a superb effort in the field - incisive bowling backed up by sharp fielding - to skittle out the Titans for 89 in 17.3 overs on Wednesday.

Talking about the fielding effort, the former Australian allrounder said, "The guys work hard on the fielding. I've been disappointed for them that they have not put it together on the field. They actually work very hard at it, away from the cameras."

IPL 2024: Delhi Capitals hammer Gujarat Titans

Sharp glovework by skipper Rishabh Pant and some inspired bowling set up a crushing six-wicket win for Delhi Capitals after Gujarat Titans fell to their IPL lowest of 89 on Wednesday.

Mukesh Kumar stood out with figures of 3-14 to help bundle out Gujarat in 17.3 overs and Delhi raced to their target in 8.5 overs in Ahmedabad.

Pant, who returned to this year's IPL after surviving a horror car crash, stood unbeaten on 16 after Australian batter Jake Fraser-McGurk made a brisk 20.

Ishant Sharma dismissed captain Shubman Gill for eight in the second over of the match and Gujarat kept losing wickets to some disciplined bowling.

Pant was nimble behind the stumps and started with a diving catch to dismiss David Miller off Ishant.

Pant affected two stumpings when his quick work sent back Abhinav Manohar (8) and Shahrukh Khan, for a duck in the space of three balls off Tristan Stubbs.

The 26-year-old Pant has scored 210 runs, including two half-centuries, in a boost to his chances of a return to the T20 World Cup in June.

Gujarat slipped to 66-7, but Rashid Khan resisted from one end with 31 off 24 balls before he fell caught behind with Pant taking a regulation catch.

Delhi registered just their third win and second successive of this season to jump three places to sixth in the 10-team table.
