Gill led Titans for the first time in IPL 2024 and both he and the management are now keen to retain the core group of players.

The first retention for the franchise was star spinner Rashid Khan, followed by Gill, Sai Sudharsan and two uncapped players in Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan.

Titans will also have the option of retaining another squad member via the right to match card at the mega auction next month. Gill is seen a future leader in the Indian cricket setup.

Gujarat Titans have let go of India's ace pacer Mohammed Shami, who is currently out due to injury.

The 25-year-old Gill has appeared in 103 IPL matches and averages close to 38 with a strike rate of 129.

Here's what Gujarat Titans spent to retain the above-mentioned players:

Retention 1: Rashid Khan for INR 18 crore
Retention 2: Shubman Gill for INR 16.50 crore
Retention 3: Sai Sudharsan for INR 8.50 crore
Retention 4: Rahul Tewatia for INR 4 crore
Retention 5: Shahrukh Khan for INR 4 crore

The sum of the above, INR 51 crore, will be deducted from the total auction purse of INR 120 crore for IPL 2025.

According to the IPL Player Regulations released by the IPL Governing Council earlier, the IPL franchises were allowed to retain a total of six players from their existing squad (a maximum of five capped players and a maximum of 2 uncapped players) either via retention or by using the Right to Match (RTM) option during the auction.
