Mumbai Indians came across among the most sensible buyers in Monda y's auction, settling for the horses for courses theory . Johnson's name came up early enough in the auction when franchises were still playing the wait and watch game.

While the rest spent their time warming up, MI went for the kill, buying the Aussie at his base price of Rs 2 crore.
Later in the day , all bidders who had arrived at the auction looking to shop for bowlers admitted they had missed their chance.
Having taken a break from all formats of the ga me, barring Twenty20, Johnson would be available to MI for the entire duration. To top it, he's been in very good form in the Big Bash League.
Johnson aside, MI played well on its other options too. In West Indian Nicholas Pooran, they have another wicket-keeping option now apart from Parthiv Patel. In the spin depart ment, the two-time champions roped in leg spinner Karn Sharma, who could complement veteran Harbhajan Singh's off-spin.
Sharma, in fact, turned out to be MI's costliest buy at Rs 3.2 crore while all the other players -six of them, including Johnson -were roped in for a total of Rs 5 crore.
Alongside Johnson, Pooran and Sharma, MI brought back old hand Saurabh Tiwary , Sri Lankan batsman Asela Gunaratne, Karnataka cricketer Krishnappa Gowtham and a lesser known name from Delhi, Kulwant Khejroliya.
