Bengaluru stampede: BCCI forms three-member committee; to draft victory celebration guidelines
NEW DELHI: In the aftermath of the tragic stampede at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium that claimed 11 lives, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to formulate standard guidelines for post-match and victory celebrations.
On Saturday, June 14, during its 28th Apex Council Meeting, the BCCI announced the formation of a three-member committee to oversee this initiative.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has been appointed as the chairperson of the committee, which also includes Prabhtej Singh Bhatia and senior board official Rajeev Shukla. The committee has been tasked with submitting its recommendations within 15 days.
“The Apex Council expressed its profound grief over the tragic incidents in Ahmedabad and Bengaluru, which led to the unfortunate loss of innocent lives,” a statement from the board said. “In light of the incident that occurred during the victory celebrations in Bengaluru, the Apex Council has decided to constitute a committee to formulate comprehensive guidelines aimed at preventing such occurrences in the future.”
The tragedy in Bengaluru occurred during a public celebration following Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s maiden IPL triumph after a wait of 18 years. An unexpected surge in the crowd led to a stampede at the stadium gates, raising serious concerns about crowd management and event planning during such high-profile occasions.
The forthcoming guidelines are expected to cover crowd control measures, stadium capacity restrictions, emergency protocols, and coordination with local authorities to avoid similar tragedies in the future.
