Assistant bowling coach Trevor Gonsalves credited Iyer for setting the tone. “He is leading from the front and he is backing every player. He is playing a marvellous role and is showing the path in the middle-order, where he is being fearless,” Gonsalves said.

That fearlessness will be tested by a GT attack that has rediscovered bite. Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj gave GT early control against CSK, while Arshad Khan, Rashid Khan and Jason Holder combined superbly to bowl out RCB for 155. Holder’s all-round impact in that four-wicket win has strengthened GT’s balance.
