LSG vs CSK, IPL 2026: Mitchell Marsh | Player of the Match

Yeah, look, it's obviously nice to get a win. That's been far and few for us this year. As a group, we've stuck together and it's really nice to get a little reward tonight.

(What do you think kept you going in the tough season for the team?) We've got great people in this group. Some great young kids. And we know that we haven't got it right on the field at times, but it's still a great group to be around. And I think sometimes when things aren't going well, that's when it's the group that we have. So it's just really nice to get a win tonight.

(On opening with Inglis) I love it. He certainly feels like he takes the pressure off me with the way he goes about it. And we've obviously kind of grown up together playing for Western Australia for the last probably eight years. So we know each other very well. It was a good partnership tonight.

(What changed towards the back end of that powerplay?) I think having the experience, certainly the red soil wicket here now, I've sort of known that that first 2-3 overs can be hard work. And if you look back to the start of the tournament, we were two or three down in those periods and we just weren't able to get through. And today we sort of, well, I thought about just backing the new powerplay as much as we could. And then it is a good wicket once you get going. It sort of reminded me of the first day a little bit.

(On his unfortunate dismissal) Cricket's a funny game, isn't it? (Are you fielding a lot more than last year?) I am, yeah. I've had a few stints there last one when it comes to the sub. Josh Inglis hurt his finger a few games ago, so he's partially taken over the mantle. I enjoy being out there with the boys. It's always good fun.

LSG vs CSK, IPL 2026: Rishabh Pant | LSG captain

It feels good. Getting a win definitely feels good. There are things we talk about, that there is a lot to play for, regardless of where our season ends. We take a lot of pride in playing this way.

(On Akash Singh) See, definitely he's been working hard throughout IPL. You know that sometimes it's harder to give everyone a game. But when people are preparing really well and he's one guy, who stick to the plan more often than going anywhere else. So yeah, definitely it paid off. The way he bowled, stick to the plan for a longer period of time. That's really good to see.

(On the opening partnership - is this what they had in mind?) Definitely that was the first thought that, getting two overseas players to open the inning and Nicky batted number three. That was the idea, sometimes it's difficult when thought process is not being implemented all the time. But at the same time we take pride and we are confident as a team. The only thing I would say is, it's frustrating when you know what you have as a team, just because of little thought process here and there and you can't implement things the way you want, things can happen.

(Do you think you're close to cracking a formula for success at this home ground of yours?) We are working out and it's been working for us, four fast bowlers, especially in the home condition, depending on the opposition we play, definitely works out for us. As at the same time, the team we have, I'm going to say this again, it's so amazing. The only thing gonna can harm us [is] having too many processes.

(Why didn't he bat?) I was ready to bat and the idea came up, I was in the dressing room, the idea came in like, why not try players who have not played much, they haven't got much chances. And that was the idea, I was thinking again and again, should I do it or not? Because I still wanted to be out there in the field, but sometimes you have to respect the think tanks decision. So that's the thing.

LSG vs CSK, IPL 2026: Josh Inglis

We spoke before the game, we keep putting owners on every game to try and win every game and we've obviously we're not playing for what we want to be playing for the back end of the tournament but it was important to put on a good performance tonight. (What was the key today?) Well I felt like I was batting with a stump tonight so the way that Mitchy started really helped me out to be honest and look it was really hard in those first few overs. It was really steep bounce.

Spencer was bowling with some real pace so I just tried to just be mature about it and just try and get off strike and the way Mitchy was playing, yeah, he got us off to a flyer. Well I think it was more ball dependent. I think Kamboj, he obviously didn't get the figures he'd like tonight but he was a bit skidder than the other guys so he felt a bit easier to score off and then we know how much, how hard Noor is in those middle overs so we were already at seven and over by then so we just didn't want to take too many risks against him. (If the wicket changed in the 2nd innings) I'm probably not the man to ask to be honest.

It felt pretty hard the whole time. It's so funny you can feel like you're not going to miss the middle of the bat the other night and then tonight I felt really rusty but no, look, it was coming on really nice. As I said, it honestly felt like a Perth wicket. Funnily enough, it was quite bouncy, good pace in it but yeah, it was a pretty good wicket throughout. (Asked if he was worried if Marsh would hit back at him?) Yes, absolutely. Yeah, I've learned my lesson. I've been run out at the non-strikers from Mitch before. He hits the ball that hard so I was definitely staying in my crease and maybe a couple of feet behind. (Asked if his hand is fine after getting hit) Yeah, all good. All good, thank you.

LSG vs CSK, IPL 2026: Ruturaj Gaikwad | CSK captain

I felt there was a bit of something for the fast bowlers. You know, when we batted, we found it difficult to hit it off the hard lengths probably, their bowlers executed it really well. But I think we were looking at 160 or 170 and we ended up getting 180. So I thought, probably nothing much better we could have done from a batting point of view, but I think credit to them. They batted really well and never know if the pitch got better or not, but I think they played some extraordinary shots.

(Talking about bowling short balls) We were looking but you know, Josh Inglis, he played differently last game. So we had to come up with a plan and definitely Mitch Marsh is someone who plays the short ball really well. So I think we were just looking to hit that hard length, proper test match length. We felt that there was something, ball was nibbling around well, but I think he hit some really good shots. We missed on execution on a few areas or a few balls as well, but I think they played some extraordinary shots. But I think looking back, after the opening batters fell, we felt that the coming batters found it really difficult to start with as well. So I think, yes, there was something a bit still in the hard length, both their openers batted brilliantly once again.

(How the season has gone so far) Well, sometimes the opposition can play good cricket than you, so you just have to accept it. I think last game they still played better cricket than us to start off, but we came back really well. So we showed some character. Even today, I think from a batting point of view, a young boy Kartik, showing that confidence, getting that 70 or 80 odd was really good to see. So, as a unit, as I said, you know, middle order was something still we were lacking. But going into the last couple of games of the tournament, I think I'm really confident that, right from a batting point of view, we have started to click and bowling, we are doing really well. Just off day today, but going into the couple of games, I'm really confident on the side.

(How do you face the next two games?) Well, first challenge is getting to Chennai. It's a long flight. After that, just make sure we comeback and improve what are the areas we need to improve and yes, try and adapt and assess the conditions as quickly as possible and it is a simple calculation for us. Win each and every game for how much ever games we play. So I think nothing simple. I mean, it is simple, nothing complicated. So quite easy here on for us. Nothing to worry about. Just make sure we have a good day. Make it count whoever has a good day and hope that we hope that we turn the things around.

LSG vs CSK Live Score, IPL 2026: Chennai’s playoff mission damaged

At the halfway stage, CSK’s 187 for five looked competitive, but LSG’s aggressive batting made the target look much smaller as they completed the chase with 20 balls remaining.

Earlier, Chennai recovered well after early setbacks through Kartik Sharma, who scored 71.

LSG vs CSK Live Score, IPL 2026: Mitchell Marsh lights up Lucknow

Lucknow Super Giants defeated Chennai Super Kings by seven wickets in their IPL 2026 match in Lucknow on Friday, riding on a destructive innings from Mitchell Marsh and a late assault from Nicholas Pooran.

Chasing 188, Marsh led the charge with 90 off just 38 balls and shared a 135-run opening partnership with Josh Inglis, putting the chase firmly in LSG’s control.

While Inglis played the supporting role, Marsh dominated the CSK bowling attack from the start. He targeted Anshul Kamboj heavily, smashing him for 28 runs in one over as Lucknow raced to 86 runs in the powerplay.

Marsh kept finding boundaries regularly and brought up 90 in just 38 deliveries before CSK briefly fought back with three wickets for nine runs, including both openers.

However, Pooran sealed the game in brutal fashion. After struggling initially, the left-hander smashed four consecutive sixes off Kamboj to finish the match in the 17th over itself.

Kamboj ended up conceding eight sixes in the innings, equalling the IPL record for most sixes conceded by a bowler in a single innings alongside Yash Dayal against KKR in Ahmedabad in 2023.

Heading into a blockbuster weekend - The IPL 2026 moves into its final stretch of the league phase now and every single game will further intensify the competition. Saturday, 16th May takes us to the Eden Gardens for the 60th match of the season as Kolkata Knight Riders take on the Gujarat Titans. The first ball of that game is scheduled to be bowled at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). But our buildup begins in advance. Until then, we take your leave. Hope you enjoyed with us. To more fun rides ahead together. Cheers!

23:41 (IST), May, 15

A tough road ahead - Well, well, well. What a jolt for Chennai Super Kings! Riding the crest of three consecutive wins before coming into this game, they run into a wall tonight and the damage is significant. Two games remain for them in the league phase, putting their ceiling at 16 points, and both are now must-wins and are tough ones to crack. But even that may not be enough. Such has been the nature of this tournament that 16 points could still leave them dependent on other results going their way. They head back home and will face the high-flying Sunrisers Hyderabad in Chennai on Monday, 18th May. For the Lucknow Super Giants, they will continue to play for pride and will take a trip to the Pink City to face the Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday, 19th May, and might as well play a party spoiler for them as well.

23:35 (IST), May, 15

PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Mitchell Marsh receives the award for his outstanding and breathless knock of 90 off just 38 balls, which included 9 fours and 7 sixes at a strike rate of 236.84. Marsh says that it is nice to get a win, and as a group, they've stuck together well and it's nice to get a reward tonight. Further adds that they have a great group of people, some excellent young stars and it's just that they haven't quite performed well in the field. On batting with Josh Inglis, Marsh says that he's a fantastic player and knows him very well, playing together for Western Australia. On the pitch, he says that he's got used to the red soil wicket here and looked to maximise the Powerplay. On fielding a bit more this season, Marsh jokes a bit and says that, given Inglis' finger injury, he deserves to have a bit of time off in the field.

23:35 (IST), May, 15

The victorious captain of LSG - Rishabh Pant says that a win definitely feels good, regardless of how the season ends for them. He adds that he sticks to the plan more often, and that is really good to see. He reckons that the first thought was to get two overseas to open and put Pooran on number 3, but things go here and there sometimes. He further says that they have been working on different plans, and the team they have is amazing. He ends by saying that he was ready to bat, but the idea was to give the players a chance who didn't get to bat.

CSK posted a respectable total - What began as a disciplined LSG bowling effort slowly came undone at the death. Akash Singh was the pick of the attack, ripping through the top order with a clinical 3/26, and Mayank too brought real pace to the occasion. CSK, at that point, were wobbling at 52/3. But Kartik Sharma steadied the ship, first forging a recovery stand of 70 with Brevis, who made a start but could not convert, and then shifting through the gears to produce a dazzling 71 off 42 that effectively won the innings for CSK. Dube came in at the back end and swung hard for an unbeaten 32 off 16, with Veer chipping in handy, and together they milked a flagging LSG death attack for all it was worth to get past the 180-run mark.

23:28 (IST), May, 15

Spiced up second half - With the asking rate just above run-a-ball, CSK looked deflated but Mukesh Choudhary prised out Inglis to end a 135-run opening stand, and off the very next ball, Marsh was run out at the non-striker's end in cruel fashion. Samad, promoted up the order, followed shortly after, and what had been a serene 135/0 had suddenly become 144/3. CSK had found a way back in, and the contest had some spice again. Interestingly, the likes of Pant and Markram were demoted, and it was Pooran's time to shine this time around. He was not at all fluent in the initial stage of his innings, but unleashed himself with four back-to-back sixes against Kamboj to put the game to bed in style.

23:27 (IST), May, 15

The Bison unleashed - The pacers had every reason to feel at home on this spicy track, with hard lengths extracting good zip off the surface in the first innings. But Marsh refused to play along. He and Inglis, two Western Australians so accustomed to facing and feasting on short lengths, turned the blueprint on its head. Marsh put the best of CSK's bowlers off their lengths by sheer aggression, feasting on Kamboj for 28 in a single over and racing to a fifty inside the Powerplay as LSG stormed to 86 for nought. Inglis kept it ticking at the other end, rotating the strike smartly and feeding Marsh, who just kept motoring. By the halfway stage, LSG had already chalked off 124 runs of the target, effectively breaking the back of the chase.

23:26 (IST), May, 15

The irony of it all - IPL is IPL-ing, as they say. The teams down the order are spoiling the party of the ones with serious chances to move ahead. Yesterday, Punjab Kings had the chance to muscle their way to the third spot, but were stopped in their tracks by an already eliminated MI side. Tonight, CSK had a golden opportunity to crash into the top four, and once again, a team with nothing but pride to play for, LSG, had the final say. The ripple effect is significant. Rajasthan Royals now find their playoff hopes blown wide open, and if they get the job done against Delhi Capitals on Sunday, that will take them into the top four, which sets the final week of the league phase up to be an absolute thriller.

23:24 (IST), May, 15

LSG's star opener is next up - Josh Inglis says that they spoke before the game that it was important to try and win every game and put on a good performance. On the opening partnership, he says that he felt like he was just standing there because the way Mitchell Marsh played was amazing, and he (Inglis) tried to be mature about the situation. Mentions that the surface was a bit bowler dependent and feels that Anshul Kamboj didn't get enough skid and they knew how dangerous Noor Ahamad was, so decided not to take a risk against him. Further mentions that the wicket felt similar to the one he plays at in Perth and the ball was coming onto the bat nicely. Has a bit of a chuckle that when Mitch was hitting the ball, he ensured to stay in his crease at the other end and not wander out and ends by informing that his forearm is fine.

23:21 (IST), May, 15

Let's hear it from the CSK skipper - Ruturaj Gaikwad reflects on the defeat. He says that there was something for the fast bowlers in the pitch when they were batting. Adds that their batters did well. They were targeting 170, but they reached 180, so their batters did well overall. He reckons that they came up with a plan for Inglis and Marsh, but Marsh played some extraordinary shots which took the game away from them. He further says that you just have to accept, and they showed some character, and the young boy Kartik Sharma played well, so going forward, they look confident. Ends by saying that they will try to adapt to the condition and take the learnings from their previous matches.

23:14 (IST), May, 15

LSG stroll past CSK - This has been some run chase by the Lucknow Super Giants. For CSK, this is a stinging defeat that does far more than just add a loss to the tally. Their net run rate has taken a considerable hit, dropping them to sixth in the standings, with Rajasthan Royals climbing to fifth as a result. Their aspirations of making it to the playoffs have taken a serious blow. CSK leaked runs heavily in the first half, and even their best bowler was not spared. Spare a thought for Anshul Kamboj, who was put to the sword, conceding eight sixes in a spell of just 16 balls. Such is the cruel nature of this game that when you are having an off day, even your best is not good enough.

23:06 (IST), May, 15

STRATEGIC BREAK! It should be a stroll for the Super Giants from this position as they need run-a-ball 24. The Super Kings have managed to make things somewhat interesting, but with the likes of Pant and Markram yet to come, they won't be able to turn this around without picking wickets. But as we have seen so often in this competition, you cannot rule out any possibility until the final ball is bowled. An uphill battle for CSK, LSG in the driving seat.
