India head coach
Gautam Gambhir attended the IPL 2026 match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals in New Delhi on Friday.
Gambhir was seen sitting alongside India selector RP Singh, and the two had a long discussion during the match. The India coach was also seen speaking with BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla.
This was the first time Gambhir was seen attending an IPL match since his mentor stint with KKR in IPL 2024, when the team won its third IPL title. BCCI selectors have been attending matches during IPL 2026 to watch emerging players, and Gambhir’s presence during the game drew attention from fans.
Gambhir had guided KKR to the IPL title in 2024 before becoming India head coach later that year.
In the match, Pathum Nissanka scored a fifty, but KKR’s spinners restricted Delhi Capitals to 142/8.
The spin trio of Anukul Roy (2/31), Sunil Narine (1/17) and Varun Chakravarthy (0/28) controlled the middle overs and kept the scoring rate down.
Pacers Kartik Tyagi (2/25), Vaibhav Arora (1/29) and Cameron Green (1/12) also chipped in with wickets.
If not for Ashutosh Sharma scoring 39 off 28 balls with three fours and three sixes, Delhi Capitals could have finished with a much lower total.
KKR eventually chased down the target in just 14.2 overs beat Delhi Capitals by eight wickets
