'Never doubt his calibre': Former India cricketer steps in to praise Virat Kohli after India seal ODI series against South Africa

NEW DELHI: Former India batter Mohammad Kaif praised star batter Virat Kohli after India’s win in the third ODI against South Africa, a result that gave the hosts a 2-1 series victory.

India chased 271 with 10.1 overs left and nine wickets in hand. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 116 not out off 121 balls and shared a 155-run opening stand with Rohit Sharma, who made 75 off 73. Kohli finished on 65 not out off 45 balls.




Jaiswal’s hundred made him the sixth Indian men’s player to score centuries in all three international formats. The others are Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Jaiswal was named Player of the Match, while Kohli won the Player of the Series award.

After the match, Kaif posted on X: "Kohli is the legend of the game.. one should never doubt his calibre and form."

He made the comment after Kohli’s unbeaten 65 helped India complete the chase and close the ODI series.

In the match, India won the toss and elected to field first, sending South Africa in to bat. The Proteas posted 270 all out in 47.5 overs. While chasing 271, India's batters put on an excellent show. Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 116, supported by Rohit's 75 and Virat Kohli's 65, guiding India to a comfortable nine-wicket victory and sealing the series 2-1.
