Ishan Kishan shows support for Carlos Alcaraz in Australian Open Final: 'he plays like us'

India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan backed Carlos Alcaraz to beat Novak Djokovic in the 2026 Australian Open, saying his style is like how Indian cricketers play.

“I personally want Alcaraz to win because I feel that the way he plays is very much like how we play,” Kishan said in a video released by BCCI on X. “He’s a bit quick. Whenever there’s a gap, he tries to hit it. He doesn’t look… he doesn’t show that much patience,” he added.



Kishan said Alcaraz’s aggressive style and readiness to take chances make him strong in big matches, even against Djokovic.

“So that is with Alcaraz. It’s very important for Alcaraz to win because he’ll have his first Australian Open. So I am with Carlito," he said.

Unlike Kishan, India fast bowler Arshdeep Singh is backing Djokovic. “I am supporting Iceman (Djokovic),” he said.


The Australian Open final will feature a clash between two generations, with Alcaraz and Djokovic both chasing historic records. A win for the 22-year-old Spaniard would complete a career Grand Slam, having already won the French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open, and make him the youngest man to do so, breaking Rafael Nadal’s record of 24.

Djokovic, meanwhile, is aiming for his 25th Grand Slam to become the player with the most major singles titles, surpassing Margaret Court’s 24. The final will be played at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on Sunday.

Ishan Kishan and Arshdeep Singh were India’s key performers in the fifth T20I at Greenfield Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram, on Saturday. Kishan scored a brilliant 103 runs, while Arshdeep took a five-wicket haul, helping India secure a 46-run win over New Zealand.
