The dismissal drew reactions on social media, with several fans criticising Samson’s form and technique. Sharing an image of the wicket, one user wrote on X, “Abhi scorecard bhi load nahi hua tha” (The scorecard hadn’t even loaded yet).

Another user said, “Man this technique have many flaws honestly would love to see him without any trigger.”

A third post, in a satirical tone, read, “Form is temporary, inconsistency is permanent.”

Ishan Kishan’s return to form has added to the discussion around India’s opening combination, with Samson’s continued struggles putting his place under focus alongside Abhishek Sharma.

Earlier in the match, India’s bowlers restricted New Zealand to 153 for 9 in the third T20I on Sunday. Wrist spinner Ravi Bishnoi, playing his first T20I in nearly a year, made an impact after coming in for the rested Varun Chakravarthy. Bishnoi returned figures of 2 for 18 after captain Suryakumar Yadav chose to bowl.

India made early inroads in the powerplay, reducing New Zealand to 36 for 3.

Hardik Pandya set the tone in the opening over by taking a backward-running catch to dismiss Devon Conway for 1. In his next over, Hardik removed Rachin Ravindra for 4, with Bishnoi completing the catch at deep square leg.

Jasprit Bumrah, returning after being rested in Raipur, was introduced as the second change and made an immediate impact. He finished with figures of 3 for 17, including the wicket of Tim Seifert, who was bowled for 12 by a full delivery that came in and hit the off stump.
