India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is facing scrutiny over his poor form, having scored just 100 runs in eleven innings this year despite leading India to victory in the Asia Cup. I've had good sessions back home and good few sessions here so I am in good space, that is really important. Runs will come eventually but working hard towards the team goal is important," he said in Canberra.

"What the team wants from you in different situations and I will take it one game at a time. If it starts then it will be a good thing," he added. The captain's struggles have been particularly noticeable, with only 330 runs in 20 innings since taking the leadership role. His performance in the Asia Cup revealed potential weaknesses in his technique, against spin and pace both. The only bright spot in Yadav's recent batting has been his impressive showing in the 2025 IPL, where he scored 717 runs in 16 innings with a striking rate of 167.90 for Mumbai Indians.
Coach Gautam Gambhir has strongly backed his captain during a JioHotstar discussion. "Honestly, Surya's batting form doesn't concern me because we have committed to an ultra-aggressive template in our dressing room," he stated. "It would be easy for Surya to score 40 off 30 balls and avoid criticism, but we have collectively decided that it's acceptable to fail while pursuing this approach."
