Retirement? Ravi Shastri panics after Virat Kohli's one-word reply - WATCH
NEW DELHI: In their final international outing in Australia on Saturday, Indian cricket legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma delivered stellar performances, preventing a series whitewash. Rohit scored an unbeaten 121 off 125 balls, marking his 33rd ODI century, while Kohli remained 74 not out, guiding India to a comfortable nine-wicket victory while chasing 237, with over 11 overs to spare.
The pair’s unbroken 168-run second-wicket partnership was their first century stand since January 2020, highlighting their enduring chemistry at the crease.

During a post-match conversation, former cricketers Adam Gilchrist and Ravi Shastri discussed the duo’s innings and their legacy in Australia. Gilchrist thanked the Indian batting greats and inquired about their potential participation in the 2027 ODI World Cup, but both players stayed silent on the topic.
When Kohli began his reply saying, “No. We want to say thank you as well,” Shastri appeared briefly concerned, seemingly anticipating a possible retirement announcement.
“We loved coming to this country and playing in front of such a big crowd. We played some of our best cricket here. Thank you so much for welcoming us here so well. You guys are brilliant, and we never felt short of support here,” Kohli added.
Rohit simply said, “Thank you, Australia!”
Named Player of the Series, Rohit reflected on his love for playing in Australia. “I've had great memories here — from the SCG to Perth. I love playing here and hope to continue doing what I do,” he said.

Kohli spoke about their partnership and the lessons learned over their careers. “You might have played international cricket for a long time, but the game teaches you something at every stage. Situations in the middle bring out the best in me. From early on, we've understood the situation well, that's what we've always done well.”
“We're probably the most experienced pair now, but back in the day when we were young - we knew we could take the game away from them with big partnerships.”
“It all started in 2013 (the home series against Australia), if we put up a big partnership, we know we'll go a long way in helping the team win,” Kohli added.
India’s dominant victory not only avoided a series whitewash but also showcased the timeless skill and partnership of two of the country’s greatest cricketers on Australian soil.
