Day 4 in a nutshell!

Rohit Sharma (12) disappointed once again at the top of the order as India ended Day 4 of the Chennai Test at 39/1, still 381 runs behind in their chase of a massive target of 420 set by England. Ashwin took six wickets to bundle out the visitors for 178 in the second innings but a big first innings lead of 246 helped England set a target in excess of 400. In a bid to survive a tricky 50-minute period towards the end of the day, both Rohit and Shubman Gill started off confidently until spinner Jack Leach outwitted Rohit with a perfect delivery. Gill (15*) and Cheteshwar Pujara (12*) were at the rescue after Rohit's departure, stitching an unbeaten 14-run partnership off 45 balls. India, now have a huge task at their hands on Day 5 with the pitch expected to turn into a dust bowl.

So, that's it on Day 4 in Chennai. Cheteshwar Pujara (12*) and Shubman Gill (15*) survive and will start afresh on the final day. India still 381 runs away from victory with 9 wickets in hand.

OUT! Second wicket for Shahbaz Nadeem as Jos Buttler gets stumped. Tried to charge and slam the ball out of the park but missed it. Rishabh Pant does the rest behind the stumps. Buttler walks back for 24. Still no declaration from England as Jofra Archer comes in to bat. ENG 165/7, lead by 405 runs.

A couple of boundaries from Dom Bess off Shahbaz Nadeem as England lead crosses the 400-run mark. Some sense of urgency now in England batting as Bess takes on the charge. Four back-to-back tight overs from Shahbaz Nadeem and Jasprit Bumrah. Both have tried to restrict England scoring in this final session and have doe well. India on the defensive at the moment and no real sense of urgency frim the Englishmen. Both Jos Buttler and Dom Bess finding it difficult out there in the middle to score runs. Just 4 runs in the last four overs at the time when England should be looking for some quick runs. ENG 137/6, lead by 378 runs

OUT! Wicket for Shahbaz Nadeem as Ollie Pope (28) switch-hit goes straight to Rohit Sharma at covers. England have failed to accelerate and have lost regular wickets in their second innings. But still they are sitting pretty at the top in this Test, thanks to their terrific batting effort in the first innings. ENG 130/6, lead by 371 runs

Session 3 on Day 4 is underway. England are 119/5 in their second innings but they lead India by 360 runs. Jos Buttler (14*) and Ollie Pope (18*) will resume the batting for the visitors. Jasprit Bumrah to start the proceedings for India in the final session. Regular skipper Virat Kohli has not taken the field. Ajinkya Rahane is in-charge at the moment. Here we go!
