Karunaratne rues lack of First Class cricket in Sri Lanka

COLOMBO: The way Sri Lanka are playing in this series, the time for post-mortems may have already come. After Day Two, Sri Lankan opener Dimuth Karunaratne rued the lack of First Class cricket in his country and the retirement of Kumar Sangakkara when he was asked to cite the difference between the 2015 series and the current one. Two years back, India won a closely-fought series 2-1.

"That time we had Sanga. But we have a bunch of young guys who can dominate the game if we play fearless cricket. Yeah they have played a lot of good cricket. They've played a lot of IPL and first-class cricket. In Sri Lanka, we only have 8 to 10 domestic matches in the first class season. Then we have five One-dayers. That's it for the season. We have to play more first class cricket and then we can find more players who can dominate the game. That's what the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have to work on for the players," felt Karunaratne.
