NEW DELHI:
KL Rahul marked his return to the Indian batting order with a new milestone, that of becoming the first India opener to score six consecutive scores of 50 or more in Test matches.
Playing his first Test since March, when he was sidelined with injury after the series against Australia, Rahul scored 57 before he was run out in a mix-up with
Cheteshwar Pujara during the second session of the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo.
This comeback fifty came after scores of 51*, 60, 67, 51 and 90 versus Australia when India regained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year.
The Test batsmen with seven consecutive 50-plus scores are Everton Weekes, Andy Flower, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Kumar Sangakkara and Chris Rogers.
The two Indian batsmen - though not openers - before Rahul to score six straight scores of 50 or more are Gundappa Viswanath in the 1977-78 season and Rahul Dravid in 1997-98.
Rahul, 25, is playing his 18th Test.
