NEW DELHI: Australia skipper Pat Cummins' brutal short-pitched delivery left swashbuckling Rishabh Pant absolutely stunned and resulted in his untimely dismissal on the opening day of the pink-ball Test in Adelaide on Friday.

Cummins delivered a nearly unplayable ball as Pant was beaten all ends up, falling for a 35-ball 21 in the second session of the day.

Cummins' vicious ball came in the 33rd over of the innings when he fired in a 143.5kph delivery back of a length. As the delivery kicked off sharply after pitching and got big on Pant, he was left in an awkward position as it took the shoulder of his bat and balloons straight up.

Marnus Labuschagne then grabbed a comfortable catch at wide gully as Pant made the long walk back to the pavilion.

Along with the wicket of Pant, Cummins also dismissed Jasprit Bumrah for his second wicket.

Paceman Mitchell Starc turned out to be the wrecker-in-chief as Australia managed to bundle out India for 180 in two sessions on the first day of the Adelaide Test.

Starc stole the show with career-best figures of six for 48 as he claimed his first Test fifer against India.

For the visitors, Nitish Reddy was the top-scorer, managing 42 while KL Rahul hit 37.
