, Washington Sundar made a video call to his family in Chennai. Once the congratulatory messages were done,

Shailaja Sundar

- Washington's elder sister and a state cricketer herself - suggested that the 21-year-old could have avoided playing the reverse sweep and finished the job himself. He had, after all, looked at ease during his 29-ball 22 on Tuesday after scoring 62 in the first innings.

"We congratulated him for the victory. You cannot expect much of a reaction from him. He is not very expressive. We spoke about his innings after that. I and my father said that he could have avoided playing the reverse sweep. He also agreed. I just told him that he could have played straight and finished the job," Shailaja, who is eight years senior to Washington, told TOI on Wednesday.

Shailaja's feedback to Washington was the kind of chat that the two siblings - who picked up cricket from their father M Sundar (part of the TN Ranji probables during the 1990s) - used to routinely have during their childhood. As

recollects, they had a very competitive streak while growing up and played numerous matches together as well as against each other. "I'm a right-handed opening batsman and a leg-spinner. I used to take delight in getting Washington out during our younger days," Shailaja reminisces.

When they were not playing cricket, they were mostly talking about cricket. "We used to talk about cricket a lot. We used to play together and against each other. So we would come back home and discuss what we could have done differently on the field. Apart from going to school, Washington and I have spent most of our time together playing cricket," she mentions.
