We need to understand team goals more important that personal milestones, says TN captain Baba Indrajith

CHENNAI: There was more despair than hope in captain Baba Indrajith’s voice on Thursday as yet another Ranji Trophy season ended in disappointment for Tamil Nadu. Even though weather played a part in the initial stages of the tournament, that could hardly be an excuse for the side’s poor performance, especially towards the business end of the competition.
What also ailed the side was the fact that they failed to fire as a unit.

When the batting department did well, the bowlers failed to come to the party and vice-versa. Indrajith didn’t mince words when he said players need to give importance to team goals rather than personal milestones. “Batting was a letdown. We didn’t perform to our potential despite having the skill and experience to perform. We scored centuries but failed to strike partnerships at crucial moments. It was also important to bat out the first session of the first day. We had to be brave enough to bat first and not lose wickets. We failed to win key moments as a team. We need to understand that team goals are more important than personal milestones,” said Indrajith.
The TN captain also said lack of bench strength in bowling department is a concern. “Initially, we had to tinker the bowling combination and players took time to settle. For the first time, Sai Kishore and Mohammed played so many games. Natarajan too was coming back from injury. We don’t have much strength in bowling department. That is an area of concern,” he said.
