KOLKATA: A day after Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) put coach Sairaj Bahutule on notice, the former Mumbai spinner joined the team's practice session at Jadavpur University's Salt Lake campus ground on Wednesday.
He welcomed the appointment of Arun Lal as the Bengal team's mentor and looked forward to working with him. "I am extremely happy about that. He was a fantastic cricketer and is well respected.

He has a lot of experience. Interacting with the boys will help him. It's a fantastic idea to appoint him in as the mentor," he stated.
Bahutule put up a brave face despite knowing that he could be fired after two matches, as indicated by CAB president Sourav Ganguly on Tuesday. "My performance has been reviewed after the Vijay Hazare Trophy meet. If it has to be done every now and then, I am fine and open to it. I have no idea who is behind all these and I believe there are factors which are not in your hands. A coach faces such challenges and I feel we should move forward," he remarked.
"I respect the CAB's decision. I enjoy working hard. There are some extremely talented players in this team. I want to continue working with them for the next two games and give my best," he added.
The coach expressed surprise over talk about rifts in the dressing room. "I have been with the team for the last three years and it has been a fantastic dressing room. I am surprised when things like these are spoken about, to be very honest," he said.
"I would like to know the players who said they have a problem with me… It has come as a big surprise as I interact with all of them one on one and a lot of trust has developed among us. I am sure they understand me and I would like to talk to them on this," added Bahutule, who was appointed Bengal coach in 2015.
Asked why he joined the camp late, he said, "I was told since the Vision 2020 camp is on, I can join late when the Bengal team starts full-fledged practice."
