HYDERABAD: The double left-arm spin attack of Hyderabad proved too much for Delhi as debutant Tanay Thyagarajan struck thrice while Mehdi Hasan claimed one more on the last ball of the day to leave the visitors reeling at 245 for six at stumps on the third day of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group B league match, here on Thursday.

Delhi have a tough task on hand on the final day as they were trailing by a massive 215 runs against Hyderabad's first innings total of 460.

"We have a definite edge against Delhi now," said the 23-year-old Tanay after the third day's play. "However, we are not taking things for granted. Delhi are a tough side," he added. Tanay literally broke Delhi's batting with his three-wicket burst, which included Delhi skipper Nitish Rana (82; 179b, 4x9, 1x6), opener Hiten Dalal (93; 180b, 4x14, 1x6) and Himmat Singh (6).

Delhi, who began the day at their overnight score of 21 without loss, were slow off the blocks with the first seven overs of the day yielding just seven runs. Allrounder Ravi Teja earned the first breakthrough by removing debutant opener Sarthak Ranjan (20; 66b, 1×4) in his third over.

Another Ravi joined the act soon by dismissing the inform Delhi vice-captain Dhruv Shorey (9; 24b, 2x4) cheaply even before he could settle down. Two early blows pegged back Delhi before they recovered through skipper Nitish Rana, who plundered 18 runs including a six and two fours off medium-pacer Teja in the 36th over of the innings.

On the other hand, opener Hiten Dalal took his time to complete his half-century (51 off 101b, 4x7, 1x6) as Delhi reached the century mark just before lunch. Hiten survived a couple of close calls including a caught and bowled appeal off spinner Hasan when he was at 80. It was Tanay who finally broke the crucial partnership just before tea. Hiten added 179 runs for the third wicket with Nitish. Immediately after tea, Tanay dealt another blow by removing Himmat when the Delhi total was at 195.
