JAIPUR: Unlike Gujarat, Bengal played sensible cricket, cut the risks, stuck to basics and the defending champions were flattened by Bengal’s relentless grind. Bengal virtually killed the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal contest and ensured the semifinal spot by virtue of their first innings lead even before the teams started the fifth and final day’s play.

In the end, Bengal posted a massive 695 for 6 - adding 212 runs to their overnight score of 483 for 4.

Anustup Majumdar scored a century too, he was the third batsman to achieve the feat in Bengal’s second innings. The match was called off minutes before tea because of rain and poor light. It was the second highest score in Ranji Trophy in 2017-18 season.

Brief Scores: Bengal 354 & 695/6 in 231 overs (Writtick Chatterjee 216, Abhimanyu Easwaran 114, Anustup Majumdar 132 not out) v Gujarat (224).
