MUMBAI: Former India seamer
Karsan Ghavri on Friday quit the Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) of the
Mumbai Cricket Association
(MCA).
“I’ve resigned because of personal reasons. I’ve nothing against the MCA or against the committee members. I’ve whatsapped my resignation to the MCA this morning, and will be sending a formal letter on Monday or Tuesday,” Ghavri said.
In Ghavri’s absence, the CIC meeting on Friday, held to review Mumbai’s disastrous performance in the
Ranji Trophy this season, was chaired by ex-India pacer Raju Kulkarni.
Apart from Kulkarni, the other members of the CIC who were present for the meeting were Kiran Mokashi,
Amol Muzumdar and Sahil Kukreja. Stung by Mumbai’s early exit, the CIC held a series of lengthy meetings with the team’s selectors, senior players and the support staff, which began at 3.30 pm and ended at 9 pm.
The lengthy six-hour inquest began with the committee meeting the Mumbai senior selectors, led by former India pacer
Ajit Agarkar.
The panel then met all the senior players of the team —
Dhawal Kulkarni, Siddhesh Lad, who both captained the team in the Ranji this time, Aditya Tare, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav and Akhil Herwadkar, to take their feedback on what went wrong this season.
The CIC also met Mumbai coach Vinayak Samant, and even the physio, trainer and video analyst of the Mumbai team.
