PATNA: Ashutosh Aman of Gaya became the highest wicket-taker in a single Ranji Trophy season on Wednesday, overtaking legend Bishan Singh Bedi's 44-year-old record. Bedi had taken 64 wickets for Delhi in the 1974-75 season.
The 32-year-old left-arm spinner and Bihar team captain achieved the feat in the Plate Group match against Manipur, which the hosts won by three wickets on Wednesday.

With no formal training in cricket, the Air Force sergeant posted in Delhi claimed an overall tally of 68 wickets. Though Bihar won six out of the eight matches played in the Plate Group, they failed to qualify for the quarterfinals because Uttarakhand finished at the top of the group.
"I am very happy for doing so well in my first Ranji Trophy. I played for Services in Vijay Hazare Trophy. When my state wanted me to play, I agreed. Breaking Bedi's record is a great feeling," Aman told TOI.
The son of Ram Pravesh Sharma, a modest farmer of Solara village under Paraiya block of Gaya district, Aman wants to play for Team India.
"It's every cricketer's dream to play for India. I will focus more on my game to perform even better in future," said Aman, who joined the Air Force in 2004.
Asked if any senior India cricketer ever saw him play, Aman said Ravindra Jadeja had praised him during a match he played in Delhi in 2016.
"I never had formal training in cricket. I played club cricket in Gaya before joining the Air Force. There was no formal training for me in Delhi either. Our (Bihar) coach gave me valuable tips and with that I've been able to score 337 runs with a century (111) against Mizoram," said the all-rounder, who finished this Ranji season with a batting average of 48.
