IND vs WI Highlights, 1st Test Match Day 2: India 448/5 at stumps on Day 2, lead WI by 286 runs

IND vs WI Live Score, 1st Test Match Day 2: India firmly established control on day two of the first Test against West Indies in Ahmedabad, with Dhruv Jurel and Ravindra Jadeja hitting aggressive centuries to push the team into a 286-run lead. KL Rahul had set the stage with his 11th Test century before Jurel, who made 125, and Jadeja, unbeaten on 104, took over with a 206-run partnership, dominating the opposition bowlers. India closed the day at 448/5, with Jadeja batting alongside fellow left-hander Washington Sundar on nine.

Jurel’s maiden Test hundred came off West Indies captain Roston Chase, featuring 15 fours and three sixes, and included a memorable army-style tribute with his bat. He was eventually dismissed by debutant spinner Khary Pierre. Jadeja plundered six fours and five sixes, celebrating with his iconic sword gesture to the fans. Both batters wore down the West Indies attack on a deteriorating pitch, capitalising on the absence of key pacers Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph.

Rahul, who started the day on 53, reached his hundred in the morning session, sharing a 98-run partnership with Shubman Gill, who made 50 before being dismissed to Chase. Rahul’s innings included a lucky reprieve on 57 but featured regular boundaries showcasing his timing and technique.

With three centurions and a massive lead, India are in total control. The West Indies, depleted and struggling, face a huge challenge on a difficult surface, leaving India strong favourites to seal a 1-0 series advantage in what has been a dominant display by the hosts.

India vs West Indies Live Score: Kuldeep Yadav talks
Kuldeep Yadav: "(Bowling with red ball) It's not that I am very used to it. I played Duleep Trophy and played Asia Cup with a T20 mindset. Bowling with the red ball was lovely and got the wicket in the 2nd over and slowly got the rhythm back.

"(On changes while shifting from white ball to red) It's all about how mentally you take it. Maybe the length. You have to go slightly fuller in red ball cricket. With the white ball you have to bowl in certain areas and change the line as well. You can try to flight the ball more and there was a challenge. I still think I need to really work on that. Changing format is tough as a bowler. You probably get enough time to bowl.

"(Difference in turn before and after lunch) In the 1st session there wasn't any proper turn but because the wicket was soft I got a few balls to grip and after that in the 2nd session the wicket was much better and it was coming on nicely on the bat."

IND vs WI Live Score: Day 2 Pitch report
(Deep Dasgupta & Daren Ganga)

Deep Dasgupta: "It is day two of the first Test match between India and West Indies. It is a beautiful day here at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. It just got better in the presence of Daren Ganga. Yesterday, we predicted that there would be something in it for the bowlers, and 12 wickets fell. What is different here today?"

Darren Ganga: "Firstly, the sun is out. A clear sky. Conditions are very different to yesterday. It was overcast on day 1. It was all about seam movement on day 1. 8 of those 12 wickets to fall yesterday were of seam bowling. Many of them had to do with the degree of seam. It was significant in the first session. 0.8 degrees of seam movement was in the first session. Then it dropped down to 0.5 in the second and 0.4 in the third. This surface will continue to offer something for the seamers, but not as significantly as day 1. So, batters have to take that into consideration.

"When I look at this surface, there is some wear and tear. There are some footworks on both sides of the pitch in front of the right-hander's off stump as well as in front of the left-hander's off stump. This creates issues for both left-handed and right-handed individuals. We saw a ball from Kuldeep to dismiss Shai Hope that spun significantly. 7.2 degrees of spin to get the wicket of Hope. Day 2 might not be about seam so much, but it will be about spinners and turn. Khary Pierre was also good on day 1, getting about 8 degrees of spin. So, I feel the spinners will come more into the picture. The batters need to show application just like how KL Rahul did to score runs."

Deep Dasgupta: "That is the beauty of a red-soiled pitch. Regardless of whether there is moisture on the surface or not, there will always be something in it for the bowlers. It helped seamers yesterday; it could help the spin-bowling today. I think the first two sessions of day 2 will be best for batting on this surface, as it will become drier and spin from the footmarks. If the batters show enough application, then there are plenty of runs to score especially on the first two sessions of day 2."
