Malhotra and George stitched together a steady partnership, rotating strike and punishing loose deliveries to keep the chase under control. Sri Lanka struggled to apply pressure after the early wickets, with their bowlers unable to break the stand. India crossed the line comfortably, sealing their place in the final with overs to spare.

India entered the semifinals on the back of a massive win over Malaysia.

Abhigyan Kundu produced a stunning, record-breaking knock to power India to a comprehensive victory over Malaysia in their Under-19 Asia Cup Group A clash in Dubai. Kundu smashed an unbeaten 209 off just 125 deliveries as India piled up a daunting 408 for 7 before dismissing Malaysia for 93.

Walking in at No. 5 in the 11th over, Kundu anchored the innings right through to the finish. His double hundred ranks among the highest scores in youth cricket, though it does not carry official Youth ODI status. The recognised record belongs to South Africa’s Jorich Van Schalkwyk, who struck 215 off 153 balls against Zimbabwe in Harare earlier this year. Bangladesh’s Soumya Sarkar had also scored 209 against Qatar in 2012, but that match too lacked official status.

Kundu seized control after Vaibhav Suryavanshi provided India with early momentum, racing to a 26-ball fifty. The Indian batter then stitched together a monumental 209-run stand for the fourth wicket with Vedant Trivedi, who contributed 90 off 106 balls. The partnership spanned from the 11th to the 41st over, and by the time Trivedi was dismissed, Kundu had already moved to 128 off 92 deliveries.

The final phase of the innings saw Kundu accelerate dramatically. He plundered 81 runs off his last 33 balls, propelling India beyond the 400-run mark. Earlier in the tournament, Kundu had also chipped in with unbeaten 32 off 17 balls against the UAE and 22 off 32 deliveries versus Pakistan.

For Malaysia, left-arm medium pacer Muhammad Akram was the standout performer with the ball, returning figures of 5 for 89 from his ten overs, including the prized wickets of Suryavanshi, Vihaan Malhotra and Harvansh Pangalia.

Chasing an imposing target, Malaysia’s reply unravelled early as openers Azib Wajdi and Mohammad Hairil were dismissed without scoring. Medium pacer Deepesh Devendran ran through the batting order, claiming a wicket in each of his first five overs to reduce Malaysia to 38 for 7. He finished with a five-wicket haul as Malaysia were bowled out for 93. A late 36-run stand for the final wicket between Hamza Panggi and Jaashwin Krishnamurthi offered brief resistance before India wrapped up the innings.
