WORLD CUP SCHEDULE

Aravinda de Silva (3/42 and 107* vs Australia in Lahore, 1996 final)

After his game changing 67 against India in the semifinal, Aravinda de Silva went one better in the final against Australia. First, he dismissed a well-set Mark Taylor to put the brakes on the Aussie charge, then bowled Ricky Ponting and Ian Healy with sharp off-breaks. In the chase, he came up with an ice-cool century to help the Lankans reach the target without any hassle for completing a remarkable triumph.

Andy Bichel (7/20 and 34* vs England in Port Elizabeth, 2003 group stages)

Bichel came into the picture after Jason Gillespie was injured mid-tournament. Australia seemed to be in trouble against England, who had motored along to 66/0. Bichel removed Nick Night, first of his seven wickets, to kick start a procession which saw England restricted to 204/8. Australia were facing defeat after they were reduced to 135/8 in the chase. But Bichel gave Michael Bevan (74*) company to pull off a memorable two-wicket win for the Aussies.

Yuvraj Singh (5/31 and 50* vs Ireland in Bengaluru, 2011 group stage)

Yuvraj, only a part-time option, bowled like a frontline spinner and accounted for five Irish batsmen. His figures of 5/31 is the best by an Indian spinner in World Cups. After Ireland limped to 207, Yuvraj came out with the bat and scored an unbeaten half-century to help India knock off the target quite easily in a five-wicket win. He also became the first and only player to take five wickets and score a fifty in the same match in World Cup history.
