NEW DELHI: Pakistan's seven-wicket debacle against India in the World Cup match on Sunday drew criticism from all quarters with former players lashing out at the team for their meek surrender.

Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq raised the issue of Pakistan batters' problem against spin bowling and how they allow opposition spinners to bowl according to their field.

"It's simple. When you talk about Pakistan's problems, if you look back at the Asia Cup and the 2019 World Cup, one thing is common, we have no clue when we play on slow pitches. We get stuck against spin," Misbah told A-Sports.

"Even we don't take on fast bowlers, we don't take on against bowling [attack], we wait, and it leads to unsurmountable pressure, which leads to mistakes and wickets," he added.

Misbah also batted for the inclusion of Usama Mir in the squad in place of Shadab Khan as he addressed the performance of Pakistan's spin department of Mohammad Nawaz and Shadab.

"I think Nawaz is still bowling well [as compared to Shadab], if you see his performance from the last 2-3 matches, he is batting with confidence. However, Shadab, even if you look at today's bowling [against India] he didn't have that confidence to land the ball at the right place," Misbah said.

ODI World Cup: India vs Pakistan numbers and stats

With a crushing 7-wicket in Ahmedabad on Saturday, India extended their all-win record to 8 in ODI World Cup matches against Pakistan.

Kuldeep Yadav became the leading left-arm wrist-spinner in ODIs by taking 157 wickets in 93 matches, bettering the 156 wickets in 123 matches by Australia's Brad Hogg.

With Haris Rauf's dismissal, Ravindra Jadeja became the sixth Indian bowler (and the first left-arm bowler) to complete 100 wickets or more in ODIs on Indian soil.

Jasprit Bumrah registered an impressive economy rate of 2.71 while claiming two wickets for 19 runs off seven overs — his second best in the World Cup.

Bumrah's World Cup average of 17.84 while taking 26 wickets in 12 matches is the fourth best (25 wickets minimum) behind Mitchell Starc (15.57), Mohammed Shami (15.70) and Shane Bond (17.26). PTI

Rohit Sharma completed 1195 run-aggregate at an average of 66.38 in 20 innings, overtaking Virat Kohli's tally of 1186 (ave 49.41) in 29 innings.

Rohit Sharma became the third batsman after Shahid Afridi (351) and Chris Gayle (331) to hit 300 sixes in ODI career.

Babar Azam recorded his first half-century vs India in ODIs joining Aamer Sohail and Misbah-ul-Haq as the third Pakistan captain to hit a 50 vs India in the World Cup.

Pakistan lost 8 wickets for 36 runs in 13 overs — between the 30th and the 43rd overs.

"When you are playing T20 cricket [for a long time] and you have to play 50-over cricket suddenly, it gets difficult. If you have all these problems, then you have a bowler in your squad in Usama Mir, and it's time you go for him.

"The situation is now that every game has become a do-or-die contest," he added.

Pakistan's fourth match of the 2023 World Cup will see them facing Australia at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on October 20.
