IND vs AUS: India handed crucial Alyssa Healy injury update ahead of Women's World Cup semi-final clash
Australia's head coach Shelley Nitschke remains positive about captain Alyssa Healy's potential return for the 2025 Women's ODI World Cup semi-final against India.
Healy, currently dealing with a calf strain, was absent from Australia's victories over England and South Africa at the Holkar Stadium. Her participation in the upcoming semi-final at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on October 30 is still uncertain.
"She wasn't quite up to it (here) but she'll continue to be assessed. We're really hopeful for the semi, but still a few days to play out before that. And we're hopeful again, she'll just continue to be assessed the closer we get to that," Shelley was quoted as saying by ICC on Sunday.
In the league stage match against India, Australia secured a three-wicket victory. Healy played a crucial role with a score of 142 as Australia successfully chased down 331 runs with an over remaining.
Leg-spinner Alana King had a challenging game against India in Visakhapatnam, going wicketless in her six overs. However, Nitschke indicated plans to utilise King differently in the upcoming match.
King demonstrated her capabilities in Saturday's match against South Africa, taking 7 wickets for 18 runs. This performance set a new record for the best bowling figures in Women's Cricket World Cup history.
"It's a special performance from Kingy, so really happy for her to do that obviously, in a World Cup. But absolutely chuffed with how she's bowled the last couple of games, to be fair," she added.
"I think it's just sort of seeing when the game plays out. She obviously doesn't come on a lot in the Powerplay. So, once you sort of get through that, it's then about the batters that are in the matchups and the stage of the game and who's going to be the best person to bowl."
