It's all over! India lose by 9 runs

Chasing 229 to win their maiden ICC Women's World Cup, India were bowled out for 219 in 48.4 overs. It is the fourth World Cup for England, while a second defeat for India in the summit clash. India were cruising in their chase when Punam Raut and Veda Krishnamurthy were in the middle as the duo added 53 runs for the fourth wicket and take them to 191/3 in 42.4 overs. But the fall of Raut on 86 in the 43rd over triggered a dramatic middle-order collapse as India lost their last seven wickets for just 28 runs and in less than six overs. Anya Shrubsole was the star of the England bowling as she finished with an amazing figures of 6 for 46 in 9.4 overs. For India, Harmanpreet Kaur contributed with a half-century and also added 95 runs for the third wicket with Raut to set the stage but it turned out to be in vain.

Indian bowlers, led by senior pacer Jhulan Goswami, kept their cool in the summit clash and restricted England to 228/7 in 50 overs with some discipline bowling and sharp fielding. First it was spinners who dent the English innings with three quick wickets after the hosts started the final on a positive note, with openers putting up 47-run stand. Poonam Yadav struck twice in two overs, after Rajeshwari Gayakwad gave India their first break in the 12th over, and reduced England to 63/3 in 16.1 overs. Sarah Taylor and Natalie Sciver then added 83 for the fourth wicket to resurrect England innings, before Goswami struck twice in two balls in the 33rd over. Sciver went on to score a half-century but became the third victim of Goswami. Katherine Brunt scored a handy 34 down the order to take England past the 200-run mark.
